Open Enrollment Toolkit

Ready-to-send messages for your members

Type your local's info once below. It drops into every message automatically. Then hit copy and paste into your email or social post.

Start here
Pick your local and everything below fills in automatically. You can edit any field if you need to.

New to this? No problem. This page walks you through it in about a minute, and you can’t break anything, so click around all you like.

How to use this toolkit
Five simple steps
  1. Pick your local first. At the very top of the page, open the “Start here” dropdown and choose your union. Your local’s name, your name and title, and your logo fill in everywhere automatically.
If anything looks off, just type right over it.
  2. Open a tab. The row of tabs across the top holds the different materials, including letters, emails, graphics, social posts, texts, a newsletter blurb, a meeting script, and member FAQs. Click any tab to see what’s inside.
  3. Copy or download. Text pieces like emails and posts have a Copy button. Click it, then paste into your email, Facebook, or texts. Graphics and letters have a Download button. Click it to save the file, then attach it or post it.
  4. Everything comes personalized. Your letters and posters already have your local’s name and logo on them. Nothing to design, nothing to set up.
  5. Get it in front of members. Send the emails, post the graphics, hang the poster, and read the meeting script at your next meeting. The more places it shows up, the more members enroll.

These four emails are numbered in send order: kickoff, Hospital Indemnity, wellness, last chance. Space them out across the enrollment window.

Tip: add your local's logo on the Graphics tab, then download a matching image to attach to any of these posts.

Read it straight from your phone at the next membership meeting, or hand it to whoever runs the mic. Nothing beats hearing it from someone members trust.

Member FAQ
Quick answers to the questions members ask most
Do I need a medical exam or health questions?

No. All coverage through NCL open enrollment is guaranteed acceptance, with no medical exam and no health questions.

Who is eligible?

Active members in good standing who are available to work (not pulling a pension). Your spouse and children (to age 26) can be covered too, as long as you elect Member Supplemental Life for yourself.

How much coverage can I get?

Members can elect $10,000 to $400,000 of Supplemental Life & AD&D in $10,000 steps. Spouses can be covered for $10,000 to $100,000 (up to 100% of your own coverage). Children can be covered for $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000.

What does it cost?

It depends on your age and how much coverage you pick. A 30-year-old electing the full $400,000 pays about $36 a month. You can see your exact cost when you enroll at NCLenrollment.com, and the full rate tables are in the brochures on the Documents tab.

Don't I already have coverage through the union?

Yes. Every active, dues-paying member gets Basic Life & AD&D at no cost. Open enrollment is your chance to add Supplemental coverage on top of it, and it stacks with any other insurance you have.

Is the benefit taxed?

No. Life insurance benefits are paid to your beneficiary tax-free.

What happens when I retire?

Yes. You can carry your coverage into retirement, up to age 75, and you can keep it past 75 as long as you're still working. Rates continue by age band as you get older. For the details on your situation, call Kocher Insurance Group at (888) 212-7822.

What is AD&D?

Accidental Death & Dismemberment pays a benefit, separate from the life insurance benefit, if you're severely injured or die as the result of a covered accident. It costs $0.50 a month per $10,000 of coverage.

What if I'm diagnosed with a terminal illness?

Your coverage includes an Accelerated Death Benefit: if you're diagnosed with a terminal illness with a limited life expectancy, you may receive a portion of your death benefit while still living.

What's the new Hospital Indemnity benefit?

It pays cash directly to you for any hospital stay: $1,100 for your first day, $100 a day after that ($1,200 and $200 a day for critical care). It starts under $10 a month, and your spouse and children are covered at 100% of your benefit.

What's the wellness benefit?

Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity coverage each pay $50 per covered family member, per year, just for completing a routine health or dental screening. A family of four gets $200 a year back, money that can go right toward your premium.

How do I enroll?

Go to NCLenrollment.com, or call Kocher Insurance Group at (888) 212-7822, weekdays 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Enrollment closes November 30.
